Double Decker Cheese Burger
Ingredients
Preparation
Cooking is one of our favorite past times and we are always looking for fun and new things to do or try. One of those activities include recreating other popular foods that have become icons in popular culture. Can you guess what we tried to make?
First we'll make the beef patties. Lightly season the ground beef with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper. Shape the ground beef into evenly sized beef patties and set aside. Next we'll make the sauce.
In a bowl combine the mayonnaise, ketchup, kosher salt, black pepper, and onion. Mix thoroughly and set aside to allow the flavors to develop.
Heat a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat. When ready sear both sides of the patties until a nice crust and color form. Since we source our ground beef from the local butcher that makes it from trimmings we cook until the internal temperature reaches 135 °F, however, we always recommend cooking using the guidelines set forth by the USDA.
When done remove from heat and allow it to rest for 5 minutes. While resting we'll toast the hamburger buns. Slice them in half and toast until a nice color develops. When done we'll start building the burger.
First we'll sauce the bottom bun. We'll then top with lettuce, cheese, burger patty, onion, and another bun. Next we'll add more sauce, lettuce, pickles, burger patty, onions, and finally the top bun. This is a monster sized burger so share with your best friend.
